Hi Boys and Gals,
I have a question for you and I was wondering whether you could give me a hand. I have an Aerodynamic exam this Tuesday and for some reason I can not get this question right.
Questions: Helicopter rotor diameter is 35ft, it is operating at 2600 lb AUW (AUW???). The approximate disc loading is -
Answer: 2.6lb/sq st
As far as I know, this type of question we use the following formula: DISK LOAD = GROSS WEIGHT / DISK AREA.
I dont remember if there is another formula for this type of question or not. Sorry if this is a dumb question!

The disk area would be the area of the circle transcribed by the rotor blades. That would be pi x r squared.
3.14 x 17.5 x 17.5 = 962 square feet. (approx). So 2600 pounds รท 962 = 2.7 pounds per square foot.
