What a blast! It seems your test officer will have very little to ask in your pre-flight oral exam. Congratulations those marks are much better than most students achieve even with the benefit of a full-time class. You should be rightly proud of that effort.

By the way the issue of the turn onto final has been resolved in the latest AIP. It should be completed by 500 ft AGL [AIP ENR 1.1 para 47.5.6]. I note that the references to alternate aerodrome requirement have just changed AGAIN to AIP ENR 1.1 para 57 instead of para 58. I had just finished updating all of the books from the old para 73 to para 58, and now I have to do it all again and change para 58 to para 57. PLEASE GOD, MAKE THEM STOP!!

Hi Bob, I am just beginning the CPL and studying your Air Law text. You have done a great job of making a shambles into something legible (CASA shambles of course).

I have been creating a TOC (in Excel) as I go through your text to help me find things again more easily. If you like I'll send you a copy when I am through the book in the next few days. Maybe others could benefit from this.

Not sure CASA or the examiners would like it in the exam though - might make things too logical. You may actually be able to find something easily; they don't like that.

Hi,

Any advice would be great. I'm getting ready for the 2nd last of my CPL theory exams and yes its Air Law. What are the rules for marking documents (AIP's, CAO's etc). Can you higlight pages in these documents? Can you separate using post-it notes?

You can highlight to your heart's content. There are limits to the number of tags [of any type] you can use. See the following link.

Hi Daniel,

This exam is great fun, right! Make sure you have given Bobs cyber exams a good thrashing.

I sat this about four/ five weeks ago. Just a few things I can remember

CAO 48, flight and duty limitations, the question will give you a multi-layer type scenario. You have flown 27 etc. hours in the last 5 days. Your boss want you to fly a navajo etc. from Brisbane to Townsville on a charter to drop off 4 passengers. The flight time is 6 hours one way. However your based in Sydney and are required to catch a Jetstar flight departing Sydney at 1100 to Brisbane. Your scheduled sign off is 2300 hrs. The next day you are required to do such and such... What is your earliest sign on time. " I'm sure you get the drift. The I cannot remember exactly but it is along those lines"

Your week has involved flying every day since Monday. Its a Friday arvo and your signed off by 1700, Your boss wants you to commence work on sunday at 0700. How many consecutive days can you work following your sign on Sunday monrning. "this rule is something along the lines of two consecutive periods encompassing the hours of 2200-0600?? blah blah blah....

Also be familiar with the ADIZ and the distances involved with that.

Also make sure you have noted the whereabouts of the NDB/VOR +- track variation? of 5.9 nm etc in the AIP (im not sure if my figures are correct) but the answer will give you options of a whole number i.e 6nm or 5.9nm. The correct answer must be EXACTLY as it is shown in the AIP.

There is a terrific table of contents that Brenton has put alot of energy into. He has knidly posted a link on this website somewhere. Make sure you have a quick read of all the points he lists - or just slip it into your CAOs for revision and accidently forget to take it out before the exam............. at your own peril.
