Aerodynamics practice exam query

Raji created the topic: Aerodynamics practice exam query

Hi all,

Can anyone please explain the answer to this question. My understanding was that thrust required curve is similar to the total drag curve. So the minimum drag speed would represent the maximum range speed. Attached is the question and graph.

Thanks,
Raji

There is a problem with that question. For a piston-engined aircraft, minimum drag produces maximum still air range, or best lift/drag ratio (same thing). The answer you chose has been changed to read 'minimum drag which is used to produce maximum range in still air'. Minimum power actually produces maximum endurance.

Thanks for your feed-back. The question has been ammended.
