Hi Bob,
Just got question regarding the two Altimeter Checks. Its an IFR chartered flight.How many checks should be done for the two altimeters? For instance if the first check on departure aerodrome is all good but at the second aerodrome the second altimeter fail the check. Should the Flight continue or be cancelled?
An IFR charter requires two altimeters. They must both be within limits. Within +/- 60 feet is a pass. Between +/-60 and +/- 75 feet is a conditional pass. If any one of the altimeters is between +/- 60 and +/- 75 feet it can still be used for IFR but must be checked at the next opportunity. If it's still between +/- 60 and +/- 75 feet it is a fail and no longer can be used for IFR, so the flight could not proceed after the second test. Both altimeters must be within limits i.e. within +/- 60 feet to allow the flight to continue as an IFR flight.
