Hi Guys,
Can't really figure out why we are burning 8 Gal @ 17.2gph and not the available margin fuel available of 11gph

The trip fuel for a flight from A to B is 66 gal. What is the maximum time that an Echo could plan to hold over the destination aerodrome at 35% MCP is start up was with 102 gal?

Hi Shaun,
Your answer is correct: (66*1.1)+15+3 = 91 gal (where 1.1 is variable fuel factor; 15 is fixed reserves, and 3 is start-up and taxi allowance).102-91= 11 gallons.
You may have an older book that used 1.15 as the variable fuel factor (15%), or a newer book with an error referencing 1.15.

The working in the current book does use 10% variable reserve as per the instruction in the lead in to the question. 38 minutes is the correct answer. However the last line of the working shows 8 gallons for holding when it should have been 11 gallons. That was missed when we changed the answers to the 'new' 10% variable reserve instead of the 'old' 15%. The answer is correct at 38 gallons but 8 should have been 11. Thanks for your feed-back. That's been fixed now.
