Flightsurgeon created the topic: pointers and tips
Hi All, just did the general knowlege today and passed 80%
The exam had many questions very similar or identical in stem to the questions in the Tait books and practice exam.
The questions that I had got wrong, I simply did NOT even have an idea of the answer and there were questions that were so poorly worded it was more akin to an exam on comprehension rather than a knowledge based thing I feel .
My suggestion is that
1. Read the book very carefully. I would summarise the whole book and every sentence.
2. Draw the diagrams of the systems and with each system, know the parts and write down what that part does... Then
3. When you know the parts, write down what would happen if there was a problem with that part.
4. Eg, when the accumulator fails- what will happen to the system.
5. There were many questions on the electrical system, turbines, mixture control, manifold pressures
6. There were questions on ice and its effect on the RPM, MAP, carburettor
7. Many question on oil T and P , these are v similar to the tait questions
8. Question on directional gyro errors. Now I on the forums I have seen in the past, the question was along the lines of the DG moves with the rotation of the earth. I put Apparent drift but then directional gyro came up on my KDR. So now I don't know.
9. Now there are many questions in the mixture control, or electrical systems so Im unsure which q. I got wrong because the KDR are a broad brush strokes. I may as well say that the whole book is my KDR! but obviously passed.
10. The invigilator gives you a pad. Write down all the questions and do the ones you know immediately and come back to the ones you have queries.
11. I did the exam in 1 hour and 15 minutes having 25 to spare. This included the time to review the questions I had issues with. Frankly, these were so confusing that returning to them, still did not solve my dilemma!
12. I was getting higher on the Bob Tait exams over 90 %. My suggestion is aim for this and accept a 10% drop in the exam. Im not saying this universal for everyone but each and every CASA exam has had this trend..
Good luck everyone it is passable.
Thanks again Bob
