Hi all,

Just a bit curious as to why the answers are different on page 10.22, Question 1 and 2 on the UAS practice questions.
Q1: A pilot carrying out solo forced landing practice, fails to select the carburettor heat to hot. Carburettor ice forms during the descent and the aircraft fails to climb out normally on the go around. This is an example of:
(a) a handling error leading to an undesired handling state (the answer)

Q2: A pilot fails to retract flaps at the commencement of a missed approach procedure. The aircraft fails to achieve the desired climb gradient. This is an example of:
(c) a handling error leading to an undesired configuration state (the answer)

Hi Cessna,

After taking a good look at that question and doing a quick check of the CASA resources, it looks like you've spotted an errata. Q1 should be a handling error leading to an undesired aircraft configuration state. Here is a summary of the UAS' as described by CASA on page 157 of their Safety Behaviours resource guide:

Aircraft handling: Vertical, lateral or speed deviations, Unnecessary weather penetration, Unstable approach, Long, floated, firm or off-centreline landings
Ground navigation: Runway/taxiway incursions, Wrong taxiway, ramp, gate, or hold spot, Taxi above speed limit
Incorrect aircraft configuration: Automation, engine, flight control, systems, or weight/balance events

It looks like Carbie heat could only qualify for the Configuration State category. Thanks for taking the time to point that out.

Cheers,

Rich
