Gareth created the topic: -100ft of Alt if QNH known

If the ONLY way to get an a/d actual QNH is by means of calling a telephone number (shown in the notes section of the approach plate), is this method, used to subtract 100ft from the mda still valid for exam? All previous questions have been based on QNH recieved over the radio, eg ATIS, AWIS, ATC

Are there an regs saying you can't make an inflight call for this purpose?

thanks

I see no reason why you could not use a phone to get the actual QNH. However you would have to be sure that you will have reception and that the phone will be usable in the noise of the cockpit environment. That would be the pilot's responsibility. Remember you will be getting the actual QNH in flight approaching the destination aerodrome.

When it comes to the exam however, I you would not assume that it will be available by phone unless the examiner said it was.

Thanks Bob.

Confirmed by CASA. Unless told, don't subtract 100 ft for the exam even if the ATIS/AWIS is available by phone.
