Hi All,

Another question.

Q9: You are on the ground in Brisbane in a CAT B twin. A/C is equipped with 2 VHF NAV with Glide Slope, 2 ADF'S and one CASA approved GPS, but DME is U/S.You have no FD or coupled AP. No PEC is available for your A/C.Conditions favour RWAY 19. In the event of Engine Failure after T/O, you intend to return to YBBN. What is the min Ceiling and vis req?

Ans 300ft. 2km vis.

I understand you can't use the CAT 1 ILS minima because you don't have PEC and you don't meet the 3 req for vis. But could you add the 50' to your DA, and use 1.2km as your vis? ( i.e. 259 ft ceiling and 1.2 km vis)

Thanks again.

According to AIP ENR 1.5 para 4.4.2, the take-off minima for a non-qualifying aircraft are 300 feet cloud base and 2.0 km visibility. The visibility required for take-off can never be less than 2.0 km and the cloud base can never be less than 300 feet. If you are going to have to return, you must not take-off unless the conditions are equal to or better than the LANDING MINIMA for the most suitable approach, but in any case, not less than 300 feet and 2.0 km..

Note that if you have to return, you can still fly the ILS approach to the ILS minima, but you cannot TAKE OFF with the cloud base below 300 feet or visibility less than 2.0 km. So you must use 300 feet and 2.0 km for TAKE OFF, but you could still fly the ILS approach on your return to 259 feet and 1.2 km.
