drewst10@bigpond.net.au created the topic: Prep Exam 3 Q 25.

You are conducting a RNAV[GNSS] at night on runway 14 at Narrandera. You break out of cloud at 1120 feet with a visibility of 4.0 km.

If you are now too high to land straight ahead on runway 14 you should -

a) Continue to the circling area and over fly for a left circuit runway 32 Incorrect
b) Continue to the circling area and over fly for a right circuit runway 32 Incorrect
c) Carry out a missed approach Correct
d) Climb back to 1000 feet and fly a left circuit on runway 32 Incorrect
The correct answer is C which I picked given the question.

The straight in approach minima for Narrandera on the RNAV GNSS RWY 14 approach are 1100ft and 3.5km visibility. The circling minima are 1270ft and 2.4km. Even though the visibility is above the circling visibility minimum of 2.4km, you are below the circling altitude minimum of 1170ft. It is night and you cannot circle below the circling minimum altitude. You must either land on RWY 14 or do a missed approach.

AIP ENR 1.5 para 1.7.6 read the whole paragaph.

The minimums you are stating in your answer don't appear to match the minimums on the Narrandera RNAV GNSS RWY 14 chart.
Even though the answer remains correct, the figures seem out.

Cheers

Yes, the MDAs have obviously been changed since that question was written. Since Narrandera has AWIS the actual QNH will be available so the minima are
1230ft with 2.4k vis for circling and 1040ft with 3.8k vis for a straight in approach.

Thanks for your feed-back. It is most appreciated.
