I completed one of the online practice exams and answered this question incorrectly. I'm not understanding it.

Question 3 of 40 (Marks: 1) (IREX_007)

The pilot of a PVT IFR flight with passengers wishes to fly the last route segment under NGT VFR flight procedures. The recent experience requirements, other than flight tests, required for this segment are -

1 A NGT VFR cross country of one hour duration in the preceding 12 months, and one take off and landing at night in the preceding 6 months
2 A NGT VFR cross country of one hour duration or 100 nm and three take offs and landings at night in the last 6 months
3 A night flight of at least one hour's duration in the preceding 12 months, and three take offs and landings at night in the preceding 90 days
4 three take offs and landings in the preceding 90 days

Submitted Answer was Answer 1 (Incorrect).

61.955 states at least one take off and landing is required in the previous 6 months. Also 61.875 states at least one hour as single pilot in the past 6 months. Am I missing something, or is my confusion part of the regulations change?

The rules are in various publications so I went looking for you so I would not get it wrong.
I have to do this all the time and need to read the rules to be sure.

CAO 40.2.1.14
Private and airwork
Within last year 1 hour flight as PIC or ICUS or Dual (as in dual check or instruction)
AND
with last 6 MONTHS
1 Take Off and 1 landing (obviously)
Or passed a flight exam/test

The three take offs and landings are to carry passengers I think which also applies to IFR and VFR by day I think.

CHARTER Flights have recency requirements.
within previous 90 days 3 takeoffs and landings
and within 6 months
a 100 miles or 1 HOUR XCC flight
OR
a 1 hour flight check at night by an FOI/Instructor

A PPL must NOT fly in command by DAY or NIGHT carrying passengers
UNLESS
within 90 days 3 take offs and landings dual icus or solo
Commercial rules even stricter

Somewhere in the AIP all this is written but as I have not indexed my AIP in years I cant find it,
I suggest for examinations you index your AIP but not too much.

Thanks heaps for taking the time to look into and reply.

Unfortunately now I'm more confused haha. My CAO 40 has purely info on Balloons only, it's a newly purchased CAO and I haven't altered it...

I'm also struggling to find info beyond the CASR 61.

Thanks Steve, the CAO's are no longer current and I think this is where the info now lives.

61.395 - Limitations on exercise of privileges of pilot licences - recent experience for certain passenger flight activities:
Day and night - at least 3 take-offs and landings.
I've been unable to ascertain what 'certain' means...

Solo-
61.955 - at least 1 take off and landing at night

Yep I downloaded 1988-REG 61.935 trying to get head around the RNAv deeming provisions
Maybe certain activities refers to mile high club LOL
