Hi Bob,

In the answers to Q1 page 169 'Cloud - No BKN cloud below Alt Min of 1283ft'.

Doesn't the TAF provided in the question and the approach plate 'ALTERNATE' column being shaded, allow the Alt min to become 1183 ..?

Disregard!

Looking through your book again I see that having the TAF isn't enough.

You must also be able to obtain the 'ACTUAL' QNH from an approved source (ATIS / AWIS)

Apologies :/

Yes that is correct. Also, the actual QNH has to be from an 'approved source'. Apparently that means either ATIS or AWIS or an agent who has been specifically approved by CASA. It does not include talking to another pilot on the ground (although the definition of local QNH in the AIP GEN 2.2 does say set the elevation on the altimeter subscale to find the local QNH). I have also been told by a CASA bloke the AWIS transmitted on a mobile phone frequency is not acceptable, but I can't find a specific statement on that one either.
