Hi Bob Rich

Just a few question on cloud base and ceiling just working through the IREX book and noticed this question. ( in the attached)

I know that cloud ceiling is above ground level in the brackets in approach plate, just need clarification on base also knowen as altitude "in bold" on approach plate is this above above sea level?

You will see in the question the correct answer "382 ft AGL Cloud base and visibility of 2.7km" key words cloud Base/ 382 AGL go contradictory?

I have probably over looked it can you please clear things up.

cheers
Linc

Cloud base could be either AMSL or AGL and it would need to be specified e.g. base 382 feet AGL or AMSL as the case may be. However, the use of the word 'ceiling' always refers to AGL (see AIP GEN 2.2 definitions). All heights in bold on approach charts are AMSL (that is what your altimeter would read).
