I'm having a little difficulty understanding this one. Wouldn't the tracks 346 and 253 have to be perfectly 90 degrees to each other, with the aircraft pointing 7 degrees to the left for the ADF to read 277 degrees.

Perhaps you might be overthinking things.

Presuming that you are on the direct track, as indicated, what would the ADF indicate at the abeam position in nil wind conditions ? 270R might be a good guess ?

Now, freeze the position and turn the aircraft left 7 degrees to allow for the nominated wind. The ADF needle remains pointing at the aid and must show a turn (of the needle) 7 degrees right onto 277R (due to turning the aircraft left to lay off the drift angle) ?

You really don't need to worry about tracks until you are looking at specific navigation matters.

I don't have a chart to hand but am presuming that there is a waypoint at the intersection of 346/253 ? If so, it is irrelevant to the question.

Ahh yes i can see i have been overthinking things again, I was focusing on the direction of 253 degrees from grafton for some reason. I should have focused on the word "abeam" meaning 90 degrees to.
