Hey all,

For question 8 set 3 page 327, the question states that you’re using a VOR for track guidance and that you’ve inadvertently diverged from the FPT by more than half of CDI full scale deflection… the reference given is ENR 1.1 para 4.2.5 (non-existent) and the answer I chose was (A) - “pilot must take positive action to regain FPT and notify ATS immediately” based on ENR 1.1 para 4.6.2 (a) - however the answer at the back of the book states the answer as (C) - “pilot must take positive action to regain FPT but need not notify ATS”… can someone clarify this for me or if this is a textbook error?

Thanks!

Have a look at the previous page of the AIP photo that you've sent (ie. ENR 1.1 - 27), and note the paragraph name 4.6.
Everything under that paragraph 4.6.1, 4.6.2, ... is related to Controlled airspace.

You are flying in OCTA = Outside controlled area.

The answer in the book is correct.

Hope above make sense.

Thanks Bosi,

I just have to RTFQ properly. What’s the reference though in the AIP cause I still can’t find ENR 1.1 para 4.2.5?

The CASA questions at the exam will not always follow the exact wording from the AIP.
In this particular example, you won't find anywhere in the AIP that you don't have to call ATC and tell them that you deviated when OCTA.

You will have to deduct, for example in this particular AIP reference, if it mentions deviation in controlled airspace, then it is in controlled airpace only. So don't focus only on that single reference, read the whole paragraph, plus one paragraph before and one paragraph after. The references in the book are relevant and closest to the answer.

At the exam there will be lots of moments "ahh I remember seeing that", the key is to quickly find that reference, re-read, and pay attention to details, ie. what was exactly asked.

Hope this helps
