Nixor created the topic: AIP ENR 1.7.6

Hello there,

Q6 on page 332 of the books says to refer to AIP 1.7.6 which does not exist in my AIP, is the reference moved to some other section of AIP?

Q8 in the book is related to VOR questions, but the answer on page 349 of the books looks irrelevant

The Airservices have recently (Mar 2025) issued Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) H1/25 with regards to Circling Area Guidance.

www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current...rent/sup/a25-h18.pdf

This has also been reflected in the latest AIP (Jun 2025), and your answer will be in AIP ENR 1.5-4, table 1.1 in paragraph 1.6.5.

Bear in mind, the changes at Airservices and CASA are issued almost on a daily basis and it is impossible to reprint the book every time the rules are introduced/updated/removed.

Before your IREX exam, I suggest to read AIP from cover to cover and know where to find the answers for questions.
If you don't know the answer, the success of the exam will depend on how fast you find the answer in the AIP.

Likely the answer will be within several paragraphs above or below the reference. So use the references provided in a book only as a guidance.

@Stuart/Bob, the answer to Q6 on page 332 needs to be updated to reflect Proserpine/Whitsunday elevation 82ft and Cat B. So the answer is 2.59nm.

Q8:
Both question and answer are very relevant when flying and using VOR.
Think laterally, how would you know your position if the GPS is out (which happens a lot these days around the world) ?
Yes, simple 1 in 60 rule.

Thank you for clarification, but for Q8, sorry I should have clarified.

The question says:

You are flying from a VOR station on a HDG of 230M, and OBS is selected to 230. The CDI is showing a deflection on one dot to the left of the target circle and DME(which is co-located with the VOR), is reading 45. The distance off track is approximately: ...

But if you look at page 349, Question 8 the answer says:

a) The MDA for a VNAV approach is 1250ft. OZY doesn't have VNAV capability. The MDA for LNAV is 1530ft and Dubbo has AWIS so you can subtract 100ft and your MDA is 1430.

The question and answer seems like they don't match.

Also, on page 334, Q8 says:

You have overflown DBOWD for Dubbo RNP 05 approach in VH-OZY. The lowest level to which you may descend in IMC on this approach...

and. the answer on page 350 says:

8 a) The track inbound to Inverell is 325M. That puts you in 6200ft sector of Inverell MSA disk (see Inverell NDB approach plate). However just under the disk you will see a note that the 10nm MSA at Inverell is 5100ft. You can still use GPS for distance information at or above MSA, so when you pass 10nm descend to 5100ft.

Could you please check if its printing error or there is something I am understanding wrong?

Thank you

How old is your IREX book? Mine says Revised for Dec 2 - 2021.

Here is what I see on page 349.

As anything in aviation, make sure you have the latest version, and also check errata page.
