Hi Guys,
Sitting met next week and just seeing if anyone who has sat the exam has any tips for me. I know there is a lot on operational met/ARFORS and TAF decoding but is there anything else I should look out for? Seems like a lot of information has to be taken in for the subject especially on general met. Will be doing bob's practice exams which helped heaps with my Nav exam the other week. Cheers
Unsure if you have sat the exam yet. I am doing helicopters, and I believe that the exam is a shared topic and not either aeroplane or helicopter specific.
I sat the exam in late March I got a lot of simple questions at the start like.
"The difference between fog and mist is?"
"Advection fog is formed by"
"Difference between a katabatic and anabatic wind"
"Corolis effect does"
"Buy Ballots law states"
etc etc
Then there were identifying features of the synopitc chart, then moved onto METARS/TAF/ARFOR.
Then it moved onto ARFOR's and having to physically plot them on your PCA and work out what they were asking, which would be a question like 'Determine the forecast given the ARFOR for this location x"
What I got asked was
How to dissect the METARS/TAF/ etc, know what everything means
Known icing conditions, and how icing effects
What clouds pose icing threats
Icing temperature ranges
Landbreeze/ seabreeze
Know DALR SALR instability, stability
Weather associated with cloud types
Fronts
