Hello everyone,
I seem to have trouble interpreting a synoptic chart in reference to Bob Taits Meteorology Book page 84, Question number 4
Its says "What is the most likely surface wind direction at Hobart at 9.00 am EST?" (We're referring to Fig 2)
Can someone explain to me how to get to the answer.
Hobart is under the influence of a low pressure system so the gradient wind at any point will be clockwise and a tangent to the isobars (red arrow). At 9.00 am there would be no sea breeze effect so there will be little modification to the gradient wind. The surface wind will have veered slightly to the right of the gradient wind so westerly would be a reasonable guess.
