Hi Bob and team. Can you please check this for me.

Question 8 of Progress Test 4 says:

6 degrees LEFT drift
HDG 030
GS 195
Air Speed 180

so I calculate the TMG as 030 + 6 dgrees = 036 and get this on the top of the flight computer marker.

Then go down and place GS of 195 UNDER the grommet (circle)

Then look at HDG which is 6 degrees LEFT so go left to the 6 degree line and go DOWN and pencil mark at Airspeed of 180kts

Finally turn the face of the computer until the pencil mark is ABOVE the grommet

My Answswer is (c) WIND 250/18kts

Your answer is (a) WIND 153/24kts

How can a partial head wind provide a greater ground speed?

I think you will find that 6° of left drift with a heading of 030° gives a track of 024°.

Thanks Bob. Just goes to show what happens when you are doing too many numbers and you are not a mathematician; The mind does funny things. Human Factors hey? Seriously though, thanks normally drift etc is second nature but for some reason I couldn't see this one at the time. I have now done all the drills on pages 4.47 to 4.67 and got them all right.... :)
