Hi All,

Can you find actual wind using the wizz wheel? Bob's book only shows you with the sliding flight computer?...

Happy Flying!

To find the actual wind using a Jep computer:

You need to know the TAS. Say 180.
You need to know the GS. Say 170.
You need to know the TMG. Say 050
You need to know the HDG used. Say 058

Method:
Set the TMG of 050.
Set the TAS of 180.
The GS is 170 so you have a 10kt head wind.
Draw a horizontal line through the 10 kt headwind scale.

The heading used was 058 so you have 8° of drift with wind from the right.
On the outer scale read 25 kt of crosswind against 8° of drift.
Draw a vertical line through the 25 kt crosswind scale to intersect the headwind line.

Rotate the disk to place the intersection of the two lines over the vertical axis.

Read the wind direction of 118° and wind speed of 28 kt.
