Hi guys,

Just letting you know that I recently sat and unfortunately failed the CPL Performance exam:(

I have heard before that it is sometimes the luck of the questions from exam to exam, but I definitely know there were some questions in there that related to nothing i'd seen or learnt before.
One was something like 'the max/min recommended runway marker spacing', which I struggled to find in CAAP 92-1(1), and another one was talking about the LDA available given TORA with 40m displaced threshold, ASDA and clearway values. I thought the LDA was the same as the TORA in most cases, irrespective of ASDA, etc??

Also the latest versions of CAAP 92-1(1) i could find was July 1992, and for CAAP 234-1(1) was November 2006. Are they still ok to use?

This is certainly not the only exam I have sat where there have been odd questions....

Cheers,

Scott

CAAP 92-1 will not be much use to find info on runway markings, for that you need AIP AD 1.1 para 5. A displaced threshold effectively reduces the LDA by the amount of the displacement. That is, the LDA begins at the displaced threshold.

A useful reference for aerodrome matters is MOS 139 at www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2016C00220. Refer to Ch 5 for AIP related information and Ch 8 for markings. Well worth the CPL/ATPL student's having a good read through the document.
