HPOUND created the topic: Exam pass

Passed CFPA this morning with 84%, relying solely on the BT book and 4 online practice exams. As others have said, these resources are more than sufficient to get you through if your learn them fully.

The exam was pretty much as expected with one exception: ECHO questions were not nearly as fearsome as everyone seems to suggest! The questions were quite straight forward and entirely predictable - landing & t/off distances or weights, and load questions. If you are getting all the prac questions right, you can be super confident on ECHO. Don't let others psyche you out!

Tips for future candidates:
  • Make sure you know the ERSA, esp ALAs, RDS (conversion tables come in handy, too)
  • Be sure to read CAAP 92 and 234... and refer to these as needed for any detailed questions
  • Pay very careful attention to units - kilograms v litres v gallons v pounds / miles v kilometres / minutes v nm (for ETP/PNR calcs). I suggest transcribing these onto scratch paper and then standardising units as required
  • Wind - are you working with T or M, observation or forecast? (Remember: Variation E is variation least; Variation W is variation best)
  • Do lots and lots of ECHO practice questions until you know all the numbers by heart - CG fwd & rear limits, arms, key weights & limits

Cheers!

Congratulations Hpound, I'm not surprised to hear that you passed - you obviously put a lot of preparation into it. All the best with the rest of your study.
