Went whale watching in the Pacer on the ocean side of Stradbroke Island this morning. We found a whale that seemed to be caught in a trawler net or something. He was making a hell of a commotion, splashing and thrashing about but not moving forward at all.
As we watched, other whales headed over to the spot as if to give support. We circled for five minutes and I took some pictures [of course I missed all of the most spectacular opportunities try to fly and take pictures at the same time].
Eventually the poor bugger weakened and seemed ready to give up the struggle. Of course there was nothing we could do but watch.
These pictures don't do the scene justice - pity I didn't have a better camera and another person to take the shots.
