Lenticular clouds in streets in the Canberra region. This photo was taken on Friday 13 Dec 2013 from the road alongside Canberra airport runway 35 looking to the south and is a view of the second and third row of leeward lenticular clouds caused by westerly wind blowing over the great dividing range between Canberra and Cooma to the south.
There were several rows of leeward cloud blanks spaning from near the range peaks all the way to the coast making me long to be in a glider. The rotor in this area can be particularly bad, so much so that on two occasions I have aborted flying down to our gliding club at Bunyan (near Cooma) and turned around to come back to Canberra airport for fear of the wings being pulled off my Beechcraft Sierra.
